Are doTERRA Oils Organic?
One of the most asked questions for someone new to doTERRA or the essential oil world in general is “Are the oils organic?” And for good reason. With so many essential oil companies out there, and even being made available for purchase at your local stores, it can be so hard to know which ones are safe, and which ones aren’t. The main reason for this is the FDA does not regulate essential oils, just like it doesn’t regulate herbs or supplements. This means that there is no FDA approval for any essential oil and that there are no real regulations on the companies that produce them. This also means not all essential oil companies choose to enforce high testing standards for their oils and often skip important testing steps to save money or time. Scary right!?
Because of this, doTERRA decided to set the standard of purity in the essential oil industry. To ensure that each bottle of essential oil is pure and free from contaminants or synthetic fillers, doTERRA created the CPTG Certified Pure Tested Grade® protocol. The CPTG process includes a rigorous examination of every batch of oil, along with third-party testing to guarantee transparency. The CPTG quality testing process includes eight main steps to guarantee that every batch of doTERRA essential oil is pure, unadulterated, and safe for use. Here are the tests doTERRA uses to ensure essential oil purity:
Organoleptic testing
Microbial testing
Gas chromatography
Mass spectrometry
Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)
Chirality testing
Isotopic analysis
Heavy metal testing
